I am always amused and intrigued by “self imposed rules.” Those rules that we impose on ourselves, our lives to keep us safe, happy, engaged and healthy. Often the rules change when we see over time what works and what doesn’t.

Prevention = me, Jan, 2 glass plates, “the girls” and my “self imposed rules.

Why do we wear what we wear under our daily costumes? Why that color? Why that fabric? Do we don these garments for ourselves or for others? Why? Do they protect us in some way outside of their obvious function(protect, enhance, contain, smooth, separate).

“It’s comfortable, I like the pattern”…”I gotta let the boys breathe”…”Boxers or briefs?”…”I’m not wearing any”… “boy short, bikini, thong(I thought it was a form of footwear)?”… “whale tail”(C.L.introduced me to this interesting word)…

So…What are you wearing?

Earlier in the week, Gigs exposes her naked shoulder to display the almost invisible strap of her vintage slip, worn daily under her favorite dresses, revealing what is a “menagerie, sculpture, underpinning” protecting her alabaster white flesh from being chaffed by her daily costume. I gasped, as I put my hand over my mouth and squealed! Who knew this is what scarcely protected her from all evils of the world.

Over time numerous articles with lace, beads, sequins, netting, silk, cotton, shiny, soft, silky, have lovingly  skimmed, contained, decorated, caressed, supported our bodies…an obsession that is fueled by tactile discovery, beauty and the continued desire to discover who we are . Black silk  gets me every time!
