My Flaw…I only have one!

Me: Would you like me to make you some food?
Male offspring: sure
Me: Omelette and toast?
Male offspring: great
Me: talking about his day, washing dishes, making omelette…
Male offspring: Mom! Mom! The toast… Mom, your ONLY flaw is that you burn toast. You burn the toast every time.
Me: Really? The ONLY flaw? So I’m a great singer, dancer, debater…(very lengthy list)?
Male offspring: Yes! Only flaw…burning toast…

I like well done toast. Yet, I am not sure if I like it because I always burn it or I simply like well done toast so I prepare it that way. If one puts on a GENEROUS amount of black raspberry jam who cares how burnt the toast is?

All I really heard: My ONLY flaw…

17 Again…

To be 17…I was living in another time in history, living in another country, speaking a foreign language daily, listening to different music in another language, learning what I liked -what I didn’t like, what made me happy – what didn’t make me happy, whom I loved, how to love and whom to trust, learned how to dance as a couple on a roof top lit by the light of the stars, stood on the equator, learned how strong and brave I was, claimed my independence, learned who I was… The process of “self discovery” has not changed… It is simply his turn.

He reminds me who I am, teaches me daily, expects me to be strong, makes me love him more every single day and reminds me how grateful I am to have him in my life.

Yes, 17… That was a great year!
